We believe that engagement photos are extremely important, which is why we include an engagement session in most of our wedding photography collections. But if you’ve recently engaged, you might not see the value in engagement photos. Here are six benefits of an engagement session and why we think you should consider scheduling your session.
Your wedding photographer is more than just the person there to take photos. They’ll be by your side most of the time on your big day, creating images of special moments. They’ll capture one of the most important days of your life. Having a pre-wedding photo session, called an engagement session, helps you become comfortable with your photographer and get to know them better.
Some people get nervous when a camera is pointing at them. If you’re one of them and you freeze up when being photographed, don’t worry! Once you have some practice and get used to being in front of the camera, you’ll start feeling relaxed and natural. An engagement shoot lets you practice before your actual wedding day, so you can be more comfortable.
This time is often a couples first professional photography experience. Taking engagement photos helps you remember the excitement of your engagement time. You can look back and share these photos years later with your kids and grandkids, sharing that time of your life with them.
Your wedding photos will be really important, but having professional pictures of you both in everyday clothes gives you more options. You can use these pictures in many different ways. While your wedding photos will be all about the wedding, your engagement photos can be more versatile.
As every couple is unique, this allows your photographer to learn the two of you… both individually and as a couple. The photographer will discover how the two of you interact together. If you tend to be more playful, romantic, chill, and anything in between. It helps them to discover what “poses” work best for you and what your favorites are and can potentially recreate some of those on the wedding day.
One of the main reasons many couples want to take engagement photos is to use them for save-the-date cards, a wedding website, and even to display at the wedding. These pictures will make these parts of your wedding planning even more personal.
Hopefully you get why we think every couple should schedule based on the above benefits of an engagement session and not just with any photographer but with their wedding photographer.
