Tara had pictured her ceremony on the rooftop at Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale. Then the sky had other ideas. From her fourth floor room, she could see dark clouds, lightning, and a dust storm warning heading toward the Valley. These unplanned events lead to a graceful resilient wedding.
That’s a lot to take in on your wedding morning. Tara took the time she needed to settle in with the last minute pivots. Then she kept going. She stayed calm, kept smiling, and kept thanking the people around her. She kept reminding herself of the silver linings.
That set the tone for the whole day. Graceful. Resilient. Meaningful. And in the end, it was exactly what it should have been.
Tara and Freddy saw each other first in the garden, tucked between palms and big banana leaves. Freddy in his white dinner jacket. Tara in a sculpted satin gown with sheer gloves. Her smile when he turned around says everything.
Their pup joined in too, pearls on the harness and all, while Tara’s veil swirled around everyone’s feet. Then her bridesmaids, in sage and olive green, walked her through the garden laughing.
You would never guess there was a storm warning in any of these frames.
The ceremony moved inside. Two tall columns of white and green hydrangeas framed the front of the room, with more spilling down the aisle.
Tara and Freddy shared vows they wrote themselves. Partway through hers, Tara mentioned how she had dreamed of this “rooftop” ceremony. Air quotes and all. It was a last minute, lighthearted moment, and it was so her.
And Freddy? I don’t think he broke eye contact with her once.
Here’s the part I love most. Rooftop ceremonies are not easy to photograph. When the sun is out, there is nowhere to hide from it.
If the weather had allowed that rooftop ceremony, Tara and Freddy would have NEVER gotten these portraits. Instead, the team brought them up to the rooftop under soft, even skies. Puddles still sat on the tiles. The mountain stood right behind them. Her long veil caught the breeze and did the rest.
These are the images that made Tara so incredibly happy. They only exist because the plan changed. Ultimately creating this graceful resilient wedding day.
The reception glowed. Floating candles and green hydrangeas on every table. Sage linens. A classic piped cake set against a stone wall framed in even more flowers.
Their entrance had the whole room on its feet. Freddy lifted Tara right off the dance floor. He couldn’t stop laughing at the head table.
Then, toward the end of the night, Tara changed into a party dress covered in flowers, put on heart shaped sunglasses, grabbed a sparkly mic, and came in singing to her groom!
Tara has so much love for her family. And everyone really knew how to show up for her and Freddy. You can see it in every guest photo.
Arizona weather doesn’t always ask permission. If you’re planning a Scottsdale wedding, that’s worth knowing now, not on the morning of.
What matters is who is standing next to you when it happens. Flexibility was the word of the day for Tara and Freddy. The whole team worked hard and worked well together to keep the day as close to Tara’s vision as possible.
That’s how the Leslie Ann team works on every wedding. Your photography coordinator and photographer walk through your timeline with you before the day. On the day, we adjust in real time. So if something shifts, you aren’t the one figuring it out. You get to stay present with your people.
Through all of it, Tara knew she was marrying “a treasure of a man.” Spaces and times could change. That part never did.
